ACTS of Prayer - Part 2 [Notes]

Join us for "The ACTS of Prayer," a six-week series designed to help you grow with God and others through the gift of prayer. Each week, we’ll explore different types of prayer—Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication—while addressing questions like, “Am I doing this right?” and “Why does God answer some prayers but not others?” Whether you’re new to prayer or looking to deepen your connection with God, this series will provide Biblical insights and practical tools to help you experience the power of prayer in a meaningful and guilt-free way.
Takeaway: Adoration: praising God for who He is
For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.
– Psalm 139:13-14 (HCSB)
Our Father delights in hearing from His children.

  •  Supplication
Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your Name be honored as holy.
–Matthew 6:9 (HCSB)
When I observe Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You set in place, what is a human being that You remember him, a son of man that You look after him? – Psalm 8:3-4 (HCSB)
God, we praise You because You are ______.
Adoration: praising God for who He is
  • God, we praise You because You are all-powerful.
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the stars, by the breath of His mouth. – Psalm 33:6 (HCSB)
"Omnipotence is the state of being all-powerful, which theology ascribes to God. Scripture often affirms that all power belongs to God, that all things are possible for God, and that God’s power exceeds what humans can ask or think. For Scripture, God’s omnipotence is not a matter of abstract speculation but a force to be reckoned with. God’s power is revealed in God’s creating and sustaining the universe, in God’s deliverance of Israel from Pharaoh’s forces, in the conquest of Canaan, in the incarnation, in Christ’s death on the cross, and in the ongoing ministry of the church."
Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary
He got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, 'Silence! Be still!' The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Then He said to them, 'Why are you fearful? Do you still have no faith?' And they were terrified and asked one another, 'Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey Him!'
– Mark 4:39-41 (HCSB)

And one called to another: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; His glory fills the whole earth.
– Isaiah 6:3 (HCSB)

Discussion Questions //

  1. When you think about moments that leave you in awe—whether in creation, relationships, or life experiences—what comes to mind?
  2. The message about prayers of adoration focused on five attributes of God: all-powerful (Psalm 33:6), holy (Exodus 15:11), compassionate (Psalm 103:8), faithful (Lamentations 3:22-23), and love (1 John 4:8). Which of these stands out to you most in this season of life, and why?
  3. The simple prayer "God, we praise You because You are ______." helps us express adoration. What other attributes of God could you fill in the blank with?
  4. Worship music is a wonderful form of adoration as we clearly see in the life of David and the Psalms. How has music helped you express praise to God, especially when you’ve struggled to find the words to pray?
  5. Let’s close by praying prayers of praise and adoration, using the framework of "God, we praise You because You are ______." Take turns lifting up different attributes of God as we worship Him together in prayer.
