Path of Victory - Part 3
Always remember what is written in the Book of the Teachings. Study it day and night to be sure to obey everything that is written there. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything. Remember that I command you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you everywhere you go.
– Joshua 1:8-9
I had the privilege over the last 29 years of being a father. I watched Jesica learn to walk, talk, and eat. She’s learned a lot over the years—a foundation of how-to’s and what not-to do’s. She learned some things from instruction and others from ignoring instruction. Wouldn’t it be nice if our kids just did what we said and always followed instructions? I want to say that she was perfect, but she isn’t. I want to say that all of my instruction was perfect, but it wasn’t because it came from someone who is also flawed.

I’ll start out by saying, “Sorry, Mom.” I was not perfect either growing up. Yes, I did go out in that field at the end of the block, where I was told not to go. I skipped most of my homework assignments unless I could finish them during class when I should have been listening. I argued with my brother, broke the glass in the screen door with the BB gun, and tried to get away with not eating all the food on my plate. I’m sure my mom can come up with a few more if you ask.

God is perfect. His Word is perfect, and His plan is perfect. It is a perfect foundation for us—solid, unchanging, unwavering perfection.

Unlike me, God is perfect. His Word is perfect, and His plan is perfect. It is a perfect foundation for us—solid, unchanging, unwavering perfection. We are the ones who falter when we don’t conform to His will. He is worthy of our trust.
But if any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving it to all people, so He will give you wisdom. But when you ask God, you must believe and not doubt. Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea, blown up and down by the wind.
– James 1:5-6
We talk about using God’s wisdom at the center of our lives. Do you feel that you are doing that? Is God at the center of your marriage, your family, and your work? Are you investing your time in strengthening your foundation through studying His Word and praying daily? Why not? Today, I’m not just challenging you but challenging myself as well: to take more time working on the foundation that my house is built on.
