  1. Why does our physical health matter to God?
  2. How can we take care of our bodies?
Why does our physical health matter to God?
  • Because God the Father is our Creator
So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female.
– Genesis 1:27 (HCSB)
Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
– Genesis 2:7 (HCSB)
For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well.
– Psalm 139:13-14 (HCSB)
The earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the Lord.
– Psalm 24:1 (HCSB)
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God’s glory.
– 1 Corinthians 10:31 (HCSB)
Why does our physical health matter to God?
  • Because God the Father is our Creator
  • Because Jesus wants us to live abundantly
A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.
– John 10:10 (HCSB)
Abundance (perissós) – full, exceeding, overflowing, more than necessary, extraordinary.
Why does our physical health matter to God?
  • Because God the Father is our Creator
  • Because Jesus wants us to live abundantly
  • Because our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit
Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.
– 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (HCSB)
Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship.
– Romans 12:1 (HCSB)
Why does our physical health matter to God?

  2. How can we take care of our bodies?
How can we take care of our bodies?
  • Prioritize a healthy diet and exercise
Look, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the surface of the entire earth and every tree whose fruit contains seed. This will be food for you.
– Genesis 1:29 (HCSB)
Every living creature will be food for you; as I gave the green plants, I have given you everything.
– Genesis 9:3 (HCSB)
How can we take care of our bodies?
  • Prioritize a healthy diet and exercise
  • Use wisdom and caution with what is legal
Everything is permissible, but not everything is helpful. Everything is permissible, but not everything builds up.
– 1 Corinthians 10:23 (HCSB)
And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled by the Spirit.
– Ephesians 5:18 (HCSB)
Be careful that this right of yours in no way becomes a stumbling block to the weak.
– 1 Corinthians 8:9 (HCSB)
Listen, my son, and be wise; keep your mind on the right course. Don’t associate with those who drink too much wine or with those who gorge themselves on meat. For the drunkard and the glutton will become poor, and grogginess will clothe them in rags.
– Proverbs 23:19–21 (HCSB)
How can we take care of our bodies?
