What better thing to shape our prayer life than God’s own Word? When we engage God’s Word, there are three key things we can do to get the most out of it. Read. Reflect. Respond. Read through the text. Reflect on what you just read. What stands out? What questions do you have? What did you learn about God? Yourself? And finally, respond. God speaks to us through His Word. As we take in what He has given us, it is natural to reply to Him in prayer. This month, we are looking at Psalm 1.

Scripture

How happy is the one who does not
walk in the advice of the wicked
or stand in the pathway with sinners
or sit in the company of mockers!
Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction,
and he meditates on it day and night.
He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams
that bears its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
The wicked are not like this;
instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand up in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.

Reflection

The Creator of this world–the One who created us–He knows the way of life; He is the way of life. Pray and ask God to reveal to you the ways in which you are diverting from His instruction and that you will plan yourself beside the flowing stream of His love.

Prayer Spotlight

Each day we want our church to come together and lift up specific requests to God.

Thank God for the person/people God has given you to help you walk in His ways. If you don’t have someone like that in your life, pray for God to supply that need of community!
Pray for Ridge Students as we run through the tape on another great school year with students!
Pray for our college students, that they come back to WVU in the fall closer to Christ than when they left.
Pray for all of those that find Mother’s Day difficult. Those who desperately want to be a mother, those who have lost their mother, those who never knew their mother, those who have a strained relationship with their mother, those who have been hurt by their mother, those who aren’t able to be with their mother.

Pro Tip

As I write this pro tip, my heart is in a rush, and I have no desire to pray. However, I’m going to spend time in prayer anyways, knowing that is what I truly need. I encourage you to do the same; pray even when you don’t feel like it.
