Seeking the Truth

Seeking the Truth
Author: Jamie Huggins, Communications and Social Media Director
The existence of absolute truth has come under heavy scrutiny in our society today—especially regarding morality and religion. Wikipedia defines it as "a statement that is true at all times and in all places. It is a fact that cannot be changed." Absolute truths are indisputable and not dependent on our feelings or opinions. As Christians, we look to the Bible as the source of absolute truth.

In contrast, you have probably heard remarks like, "This is my truth" or "It's their truth." These are relative truths. According to Christianity.com, it is "the belief that truth changes based on the individual's understanding of it." Meaning what's true for you may not be for me. Relativism says we cannot know absolute truth because there's no higher power to establish it.

For instance, after uploading a short video clip from the first message of our Truth Is series online, I received this comment, "I've heard plenty of stories of people being set free by other religions and faiths, so why is Jesus Christ the only one who can set you free?" After suggesting they check out Pastor Tim's entire message and encouraging them to watch more of the series, they responded, "I'm hesitant to 'check out' anything that claims to be an absolute truth."
For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new. They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths.
– 2 Timothy 4:3-4

"The Truth" proclaims there is only one way to God, and His name is Jesus Christ.

While many people claim to seek "the truth," they are not looking for it; they are looking for "their truth." "Their truth" is grounded in human ideology, not Biblical absolutes. All paths lead to God. Rights and wrongs are subjective. You can manifest the life you want to live. Do what's best for you. Relativism makes us feel comfortable, but it's not what the Bible teaches.
Jesus told him, 'I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'
– John 14:6
"The Truth" proclaims there is only one way to God, and His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus was unlike anyone who ever lived. He was fully God and fully man. Jesus willingly came to earth, lived a perfect life, and offered Himself a willing sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins. He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death, and freely offers everyone who believes in Him the gift of eternal life.
For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world that He might condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. Anyone who believes in Him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the One and Only Son of God.
– John 3:16-18
If you have not yet placed your faith and trust in Jesus as your Savior, I encourage you to do so today. Jesus loves you so much and wants nothing more than a personal relationship with you. If you already have a relationship with Jesus, I challenge you to seek "the Truth." As our society drifts further and further away from God, stand firm on the foundation of the Bible. Use it to guide the lost around you toward the only absolute, life-giving Truth—Jesus Christ.
