Have you ever watched after a stone has been skipped across the water? When it begins to sink, ripples go out from the center. This week Pastor Tim taught from Exodus 20:14, Do not commit adultery. Four words! Just four words! Yet the ripples of pain from the choice made by two people impacts so many lives, further than we can possibly imagine.
For many, our society has made this commandment obsolete. We live in a world where doing what feels right rather than doing what is right is applauded. This commandment deals with morality. Those principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior. Let us call adultery what it is… It is sin.
We have a Savior who is willing to forgive sin. The question we must ask ourselves is if Jesus was willing to forgive the woman caught in adultery, how does this affect us?
In John 8:2-11 is states:

3 Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, making her stand in the center. 4 “Teacher,†they said to Him, “this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. 5 In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do You say?†6 They asked this to trap Him, in order that they might have evidence to accuse Him.
Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with His finger. 7 When they persisted in questioning Him, He stood up and said to them, “The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her.â€
8 Then He stooped down again and continued writing on the ground. 9 When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men. Only He was left, with the woman in the center. 10 When Jesus stood up, He said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?â€
11 “No one, Lord,†she answered.
“Neither do I condemn you,†said Jesus. “Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.â€

Ones who have chosen to be in adulterous relationships can be forgiven. In seeking forgiveness, Warren Wiersbe states that the adulterer and adulteress must live with the sad consequences of forgiven sin. It is wonderful to be forgiven, but living with the consequences can be difficult. More than the adulterers are impacted. Family members, friends, coworkers suffer from the consequences.

How do we not have to deal with the consequences of this sin? C.S. Lewis wrote, “Obedience is the key to all doors.†Obey God! His Word gives us guidance on how to live life to its fullest and not give in to the temptations around us.
In Philippians 4:8, Paul states, “Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things."
We must choose to dwell on things that are focused on God. As our relationship with God becomes more intimate and more dependent on Him, we will be able to withstand the schemes of Satan to destroy marriages and families.
Focus on your relationship with Jesus, knowing that His love, forgiveness and guidance will lead to a stronger relationship with your spouse and family. Allow His healing power to impact every area of your life.
