Secure

Secure. This word brings to mind the image of a rosy-cheeked infant held in her father’s arms — safe, protected, and loved. As the child grows and takes her first shaky steps, the father waits with arms outstretched. The same strong arms hold the daughter close when nightmares strike and scoop the little girl up after a fall. As the years pass and life’s problems threaten to overwhelm, the daughter continues to find comfort and security in her father’s arms.

Earthly fathers may fall short in their efforts, but we can be certain that our Father in heaven is holding us securely in the present moment and as we walk into eternity.
Romans 8:38-39 reminds us of the following:
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Such peace can be found in this promise. Tim shared in his message, if we have placed our trust in Jesus and become children of God, there is absolutely nothing that can separate us from His love. In Christ, we are secure; we can be certain that we will spend eternity in heaven.

When I was 15 years old, my world was in turmoil. My mother was hospitalized with a serious illness and I found myself moving from one house to another. A good friend would often invite me to her home on the weekends. It was there that I found rest and solace from the chaos in my own life. Her family surrounded me with love and support and began taking me to church on Sundays where I heard and responded to the gospel message and was baptized. What a change Jesus made in my life! While my circumstances remained the same, I was free from the chains that once held me bound and filled with joy and hope for the future.

Life hasn’t always been easy as hardship intermingles with joy, but God’s faithfulness remains. He is with me in the dark, beside me in the suffering and ever present in the times I’ve strayed away. It is His arms that hold me tight and His arms that pick me up again and again. It is He who has carried me throughout this life and He who will carry me into eternity.

If we have placed our trust in Jesus and become children of God, there is absolutely nothing that can separate us from His love.

I can rest in this promise from Romans 8:28:
We know that God works all things together for good for the ones who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.
While not all things in life are good, God is able to redeem the broken parts and use us to fulfill His purpose. He will give us victory over death and promises us an eternity in heaven with Him. We can rest assured in his promises, both now and forevermore. I encourage you to consider memorizing Romans 8:38-39 —  if you begin to doubt God’s promises of unfailing love, may you remind yourself that nothing can separate us from his love.
