What's the Point - Part 2
“Sanctify them by the truth; Your Word is truth.”
– John 17:17
I have done a lot of coaching with Christian CEOs and business owners over the past five years. Most of the leaders I coach are stuck and can’t see the way forward. Sometimes, they know where they want to go but don’t know how to get there. That’s when I might ask, "What is the wise next step?” or “What does a half step look like?”

Other times, they have no idea where they want to go or where they are headed. They are so focused on the issue or themself that they are nearly incapable of taking a step. That’s when I ask, “What do you know to be true?” Usually, after a long pause, they go back to what they believe is true about the situation, or even true about themself, or true about God’s Word and His promises. Once they can answer this question, they are able to take the next wise step.

What do you know to be true? Where are you getting your truth? Is it from the news, social media, friends, or yourself? What does that truth actually look like? How does it impact your life? Is it life-giving? According to Google, the word true means “in accordance with fact or reality.” But who gets to define fact or reality? How do we know that a specific fact or reality is true?

His Word is perfect, trustworthy, right, radiant, pure, reliable, and righteous.

In 2005, talk show host Stephen Colbert coined the term “truthiness,” which means “the quality of seeming or being felt to be true, even if not necessarily true.” Truthiness was named Word of the Year in 2006 by Merriam-Webster. It seems like it could be named the Word of the Year in 2023 because that appears to be where we are today—things seem to be true or feel true, even if they are not necessarily true.

Maybe a better question than “What do you know to be true?” is, “Where do you find what is true?” I believe that it all starts with the Bible, the Word of God! We can trust that God’s Word is true.
“Lord God, You are God; Your words are true, and You have promised this grace to Your servant.”
– 2 Samuel 7:28
God’s Word is true. It’s impactful. It transforms people, and it actually works. No book has impacted the world like the Bible. When we get in the habit of reading God’s Word, meditating on God’s Word, and studying God’s Word, it can have a life-changing impact on each of us.
“The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one’s life; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise. The precepts of the Lord are right, making the heart glad; the command of the Lord is radiant, making the eyes light up. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous. They are more desirable than gold—than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey, which comes from the honeycomb. In addition, Your servant is warned by them; there is great reward in keeping them.”
– Psalm 19:7-11
The words instruction, testimony, precepts, command, fear, and ordinances in the above verses are all about God’s Word. His Word is perfect, trustworthy, right, radiant, pure, reliable, and righteous. His Word renews our life, makes us wise, makes our hearts glad, and our eyes light up. God’s Words are more desirable than gold and sweeter than honey. There is a great reward for each of us when we keep them.

God’s Word is trustworthy. There is no “truthiness” in His Word. We can trust that God’s Word is true!
