Who Am I? - Part 2 [Notes]

One of the most significant phrases found in the Bible is “in Christ.” This phrase appears in various forms over 150 times in the New Testament. For the Christian, because we are “in Christ,” we share many of the blessings and attributes of Christ himself.

Join us as we begin a new series titled, "Who Am I?" Together we will explore from the book of Romans what the Apostle Paul said was true about us because of our connection with Christ.
Today's Takeaway // In Christ, we are victorious.
In Christ, we are forgiven.
In Christ, we are victorious.
Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moralimpurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar...1
– Galatians 5:19-21a (HCSB)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
– Galatians 5:22-24 (HCSB)
Since by the one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
– Romans 5:17 (HCSB)
What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply?
– Romans 6:1 (HCSB)
Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
– Romans 6:2 (HCSB)
Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in a new way of life. For if we have been joined with Him in the likeness of His death, we will certainly also be in the likeness of His resurrection. For we know that our old self r was crucified with Him t in order that sin’s dominion over the body may be abolished, so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, since a person who has died is freed x from sin’s claims.y
– Romans 6:3-7 (HCSB)
r 6:6 Lit man; = the person before conversion
t 6:6 Gl 2:20; 5:24; 6:14
x 6:7 Or justified; lit acquitted
y 6:7 Lit from sin
I am in Christ and identified with Him. Therefore, whatever happened to Christ has happened to me. When He died, I died. When He arose, I arose in Him. I am now seated with Him in the heavenlies! Because of this living union with Christ, the believer has a totally new relationship to sin.2

So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
– Romans 6:11 (HCSB)
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its desires. And do not offer any parts of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God, and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness. For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under law but under grace.
– Romans 6:12-14 (HCSB)
