Famous Last Words - Part 2 [Devo]

Famous Last Words, Part 2

How will you be remembered when you are gone? What traits will define you to your friends and family?

In his message on Sunday, Pastor Tim asked us to think about what our obituary would say. This led me to analyze myself and where most of my energy is spent. I concluded, “Here lies Kim…she went to work each day, had a tidy house, kept up with the laundry, prayed every day, and did her daily devotions.”

The message's bible verse was from 1 Corinthians 13, where Paul wrote that even if we are gifted, sacrificial and faith-filled, if we don’t have love, we are nothing at all…If we have to choose between faith, hope, and love, the greatest of these is love.

Jesus’ whole life and legacy could be defined in one word: LOVE. His love was so great that it was demonstrated through His last words as He hung on the cross, dying in our place for our sins. In His final hours, although Jesus was in great need Himself, He took upon Himself the responsibility to make sure His mother’s needs were taken care of. Jesus knew the disciple He loved the most would love well the woman He loved, His mother (John 19:26-27). One of His last acts was to love and honor His mother.

How we see Christ is how I would like to be remembered. Loving others is a priority I want to make in my life.

Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39).

How do you want to be remembered? I encourage you today to let others see how well you can love. Make it a goal to serve others, forgive someone, take time to say or text kind words, or do a small deed to bring a smile to another’s face. There’s a whole world of opportunities to show love and lead people to our Savior.
