Advent: Week One // Hope

Hope is called the anchor of the soul because it gives stability to the Christian life. But hope is not simply a ‘wish’ (I wish that such-and-such would take place); rather, it is that which latches on to the certainty of the promises of the future that God has made.

Often when we think of hope, we think of unsubstantiated optimism. However, that is not what the Bible means when it talks about Hope. That is not what our God offers us. He presents us with a much more weighty and beneficial kind of Hope.

Biblical Hope is rooted not in a potential future outcome but rather a person. It is a waiting and anticipation, not because we don’t know what is to come, but rather because we do!
We long for, with eager expectation, what our Faithful God has promised! And it is that certainty in who our God is which provides us the hope that anchors our soul amid the storms of life.

I pray that as you read this devotional this week, you will find Hope in the King of Kings!
