I Might Have a Problem - Part 5 [Notes]

You’re invited to join us for "I Might Have a Problem," a six-week series tackling real-life struggles that impact nearly everyone. Whether it’s spending too much time on your phone, struggling with money, running on empty, or dealing with thoughts you can’t seem to escape—this series is for you. We’ll explore what the Bible has to say about these challenges, and discover steps we can take to live with more purpose, peace, and freedom. Whether you know you have a problem—or just might have a problem—this series will help you, and the people you care about, take healthy steps forward. Modern problems. Biblical solutions.
Takeaway: For the sake of tomorrow, decide today what you will or will not allow yourself to think about.
  • Worries and concerns
  • Mistakes and regrets
  • Fears of various kinds
  • Impure or lustful thoughts
  • Angry thoughts
For the sake of tomorrow, decide today what you will or will not allow yourself to think about.
  1. Confront negative thoughts with the truth of God’s Word.
For the Word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart.
– Hebrews 4:12 (HCSB)
Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
– Romans 12:2 (HCSB)
He [God] has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desires.
– 2 Peter 1:4b (HCSB)
1. Confront negative thoughts with the truth of God’s Word.
2. Cling to Christ for the victory over your thoughts.
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer
– Psalm 19:14 (HCSB)
But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a complete and pure devotion to Christ.
– 2 Corinthians 11:3 (HCSB)
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, double-minded people!
– James 4:8 (HCSB)
3. Call out to God for help.
Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
– Philippians 4:6-7 (HCSB)
You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You. Trust in the Lord forever, because in Yah, the Lord, is an everlasting rock.
– Isaiah 26:3-4 (HCSB)
  1. Confront negative thoughts with the truth of God’s Word.
  2. Cling to Christ for the victory over your thoughts.
  3. Call out to God for help.
4. Be careful what you allow to “be at home” in your mind.
But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
– Matthew 5:28-29 (HCSB)
Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable —if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things.
– Philippians 4:8 (HCSB)
“Most people would like to be delivered from temptation, but would like to keep in touch.”
– Robert Orbin
5. Allow other Christians to help you.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.
– James 5:16 (HCSB)
But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into Him who is the head—Christ. From Him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part.
– Ephesians 4:15-16 (HCSB)
  1. Confront negative thoughts with the truth of God’s Word.
  2. Cling to Christ for the victory over your thoughts.
  3. Call out to God for help
  4. Be careful what you allow to “be at home” in your mind.
  5. Allow other Christians to help you.
He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
– Matthew 22:37 (HCSB)
